Eating Show Hawaiian food Taro root

This is my first eating show I’ve done so grab some food eat with me as I eat and describe Hawaiian food.

I find Taro root very interesting.

Poi is a Hawaiian word for the primary Polynesian staple food made from the underground plant stem or corm of the taro plant (known in Hawaiian as kalo). It is a traditional part of Native Hawaiian cuisine. Poi is produced by mashing the cooked corm (baked or steamed) until it is a highly viscous fluid.

Gently squeeze the fruit to open the outer peel (skin) of the fruit and then pull out the sweet white inside pieces.

One or two of the large white pieces may have seeds inside of them so be careful.

Hawaiian Culture Video: The Tradition of Poi Making

Few things are as sacred to Hawaiian people as taro. Historically, most families grew taro in their backyards, pounding it into poi by hand. Modern life is very different, but Hawaiians still love poi—even if they don’t grow it themselves. Watch how it was done in the olden days.
